Now in its 7th year, the surveys seek to gain more understanding of the facts and lived experiences behind the figures, and the impact poverty has on children, young people and their families. Crucially, the surveys allow children, young people, practitioners and professionals to share their views and experiences of poverty in Wales and to highlight the issues that are being faced right now, on a daily basis.

Current statistics show that 28% of children in Wales live in poverty and all local authorities continue to experience high rates of child poverty. Whilst the child poverty rate appears to have gone down in the 2023 reporting period, unfortunately there is very little ‘good news’ reflecting that in this report. Again, practitioners share a bleak picture of the impact poverty has on thousands of children and young people across Wales. It is wholly unacceptable that in seven years, since these annual surveys began, arguably very little has changed for our children and young people.
The practitioners and professionals who responded to this survey, work with a minimum of 110,000 families and their children. Overall, they see the rising cost of living, food insecurity and debt as factors that are having the greatest impact on families, with 95% stating that the situation is worse this year compared to last.
Respondents talk about “drastic consequences” of poverty, “deteriorating mental health” and “increased anxiety”, not just for parents, but for children too. The webinar will provide an overview of the report findings and the impact poverty has on the lives of children, young people and their families in Wales.
Karen McFarlane, author of the report, explores these and many other findings from the survey analysis. The webinar will give participants a greater understanding of the daily issues faced by many children, young people and families who live in poverty and the impact this has. It will also provide the opportunity to ask questions about the findings directly to the author.

Karen has worked at Children in Wales for a number of years, on numerous projects. As part of her current work, Karen facilitates two national networks - the End Child Poverty Network and the Third Sector Additional Needs Alliance.

Bellach yn ei seithfed flwyddyn, mae'r arolygon yn ceisio cael mwy o ddealltwriaeth o'r ffeithiau a'r profiadau byw y tu ôl i'r ffigurau, a'r effaith y mae tlodi yn ei chael ar blant, pobl ifanc a'u teuluoedd. Yn hollbwysig, mae'r arolygon yn caniatáu i blant, pobl ifanc, ymarferwyr a gweithwyr proffesiynol rannu eu barn a'u profiadau o dlodi yng Nghymru ac amlygu'r materion sy'n cael eu hwynebu ar hyn o bryd, yn ddyddiol.
Bydd yr adroddiad eleni yn cael ei lansio'n uniongyrchol ar ôl y weminar ar 5 Hydref 2023, felly archebwch eich lle nawr i glywed y canfyddiadau cyn eu cyhoeddi.

Mae'n gwbl annerbyniol, mewn saith mlynedd, ers i'r arolygon blynyddol hyn ddechrau, y gellid dadlau mai ychydig iawn sydd wedi newid i'n plant a'n pobl ifanc.
Mae'r ymarferwyr a'r gweithwyr proffesiynol a ymatebodd i'r arolwg hwn yn gweithio gydag o leiaf 110,000 o deuluoedd a'u plant.
