State of Children’s Rights in Wales

In December 2022 the Wales UNCRC Monitoring Group, facilitated by Children in Wales, submitted the State of Children’s Rights in Wales report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
This Report, submitted as the Wales civil society alternative report, forms part of the current examination of UK and devolved governments' progress in realising children’s rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Receiving over 80 contributions from organisations and individuals across Wales to this and the previous publication in 2020, the Report highlights key child rights issues facing children in Wales across all of the UNCRC thematic areas. These include child poverty & the cost-of-living crisis, emotional & mental health, safeguarding & child protection, health & education inequalities, play, youth justice and issues impacting on particular groups of children, such as care-experienced children and children with protected characteristics. The Report was published on 2 February 2023 ahead of the UN Committee evidence session held in Geneva with civil society alliances, children and young people and human rights commissioners.
Join us to hear from two of the contributors to the Report and representatives at the UN Committee session - Sean O’Neill (Children in Wales) and Dr Rhian Croke (Children’s Legal Centre, Swansea University) - alongside other speakers (TBC), who will present some of the main issues in the report and offer their reflections on the examination process and hopes ahead of the UN Committee’s examination of the UK and Devolved Governments in May.
The webinar will be chaired by Helen Mary Jones (Chair, Children in Wales).

Ym mis Rhagfyr 2022 cyflwynodd Grŵp Monitro CCUHP Cymru, a hwyluswyd gan Plant yng Nghymru, adroddiad Cyflwr Hawliau Plant yng Nghymru i Bwyllgor y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau'r Plentyn.
Mae'r Adroddiad hwn, a gyflwynwyd fel adroddiad amgen cymdeithas sifil Cymru, yn rhan o'r archwiliad presennol o gynnydd llywodraethau'r DU a'r gwledydd datganoledig wrth wireddu hawliau plant o dan Gonfensiwn y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau'r Plentyn (CCUHP). Gan dderbyn dros 80 o gyfraniadau gan sefydliadau ac unigolion ledled Cymru i hyn a'r cyhoeddiad blaenorol yn 2020, mae'r Adroddiad yn tynnu sylw at faterion allweddol sy'n ymwneud â hawliau plant sy'n wynebu plant yng Nghymru ar draws pob un o feysydd thematig y CCUHP. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys tlodi plant a'r argyfwng costau byw, iechyd meddwl emosiynol a meddyliol, diogelu ac amddiffyn plant, anghydraddoldebau iechyd ac addysg, chwarae, cyfiawnder ieuenctid a materion sy'n effeithio ar grwpiau penodol o blant, megis plant sydd â phrofiad o ofal a phlant â nodweddion gwarchodedig. Cyhoeddwyd yr Adroddiad ar 2 Chwefror 2023, cyn sesiwn dystiolaeth Pwyllgor y Cenhedloedd Unedig a gynhaliwyd yn Genefa gyda chynghreiriau cymdeithas sifil, plant a phobl ifanc a chomisiynwyr hawliau dynol.
Ymunwch â ni i glywed gan ddau o gyfranwyr yr Adroddiad a'r cynrychiolwyr yn sesiwn Pwyllgor y Cenhedloedd Unedig - Sean O'Neill (Plant yng Nghymru) a Dr Rhian Croke (Canolfan Gyfreithiol y Plant, Prifysgol Abertawe) - ochr yn ochr â siaradwyr eraill (i'w gadarnhau), a fydd yn cyflwyno rhai o brif faterion yr adroddiad ac yn cynnig eu myfyrdodau ar y broses arholi a'u gobeithion cyn archwiliad Pwyllgor y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Lywodraethau'r DU a'r Llywodraethau Datganoledig ym mis Mai.
