Poverty the enemy of opportunity – Giving parents the tools to fight inequality by supporting children’s early learning

Children in Wales is delighted to work alongside representatives from the Early Years and Wales Teams at Save the Children UK to present the next webinar in our poverty-related series. 

Save the Children UK's mission is to secure a sustainable reduction in the number of children growing up in poverty, and work to narrow the early learning gap between children growing up in poverty and their better off peers.  They believe this is possible if more children have their basic needs met, and receive help which enables them to play, learn and reach their full potential. This requires more money and decent jobs for parents, more opportunities for young children to play and learn, and policies and services which listen to children and families, and which reduce discrimination. 

This webinar will give an overview of Save the Children’s approaches to tackling the inequalities that children and families living in poverty are facing.  They will give an overview of their Early Years Framework, as well as an overview of UK evidence with a spotlight on evidence and best practice examples from Wales. This will include direct insights from their work in Wales with the voices of children and families being key to our examples of best practice, co design and innovation in their early years work.

Examples of Positive Practice - Can you help?

Are you working to mitigate the impact of poverty for children, young people and families, through local practice, policy or projects? If so, we’d love to hear about it. 

We are looking for examples from across Wales that we can share with a wide audience through our series of poverty-related webinars. All examples are welcome regardless of size or setting, from internal staff awareness and changing attitudes, to community or county-wide projects. All have an important role to play and our audiences are keen to learn from you.

Mae tlodi’n elyn i gyfleoedd – galluogi rhieni i frwydro yn erbyn anghydraddoldeb trwy gefnogi dysgu cynnar plant

Mae Plant yng Nghymru wrth eu bodd yn gweithio ochr yn ochr â chynrychiolwyr o’r Tîm Blynyddoedd Cynnar a Thîm Cymru yn Achub y Plant/Save the Children UK i gyflwyno’r gweminar nesaf yn ein cyfres sy’n ymwneud â thlodi.

Cenhadaeth Save the Children UK yw sicrhau gostyngiad cynaliadwy yn nifer y plant sy’n tyfu i fyny mewn tlodi a gweithio i gau’r bwlch dysgu cynnar rhwng plant sy’n tyfu i fyny mewn tlodi a’u cyfoedion mwy cefnog.  Maent yn credu bod hyn yn bosibl os bydd mwy o blant yn derbyn eu hanghenion sylfaenol, ac yn derbyn cymorth fydd yn eu galluogi i chwarae, dysgu a chyflawni eu potensial. Mae hynny’n galw am fwy o arian a swyddi teilwng i rieni, mwy o gyfleoedd i blant ifanc chwarae a dysgu, a pholisïau a gwasanaethau sy’n gwrando ar blant a theuluoedd, ac sy’n lleihau camwahaniaethu.

Bydd y gweminar hwn yn rhoi trosolwg o ddulliau gweithredu Achub y Plant wrth fynd i’r afael â’r mathau o anghydraddoldeb mae plant a theuluoedd sy’n byw mewn tlodi yn eu hwynebu. Byddwn nhw'n rhoi trosolwg o’n Fframwaith Blynyddoedd Cynnar, yn ogystal â throsolwg o dystiolaeth o’r Deyrnas Unedig, gyda sbotolau ar dystiolaeth ac enghreifftiau o arfer gorau o Gymru. Bydd hyn yn cynnwys cipolwg uniongyrchol ar ein gwaith yng Nghymru, a bydd lleisiau plant a theuluoedd yn allweddol yn ein henghreifftiau o arfer gorau, cyd-ddylunio ac arloesedd yn eu gwaith blynyddoedd cynnar.

Enghreifftiau o Arfer Cadarnhaol - Allwch chi helpu?

A ydych yn gweithio i liniaru effaith tlodi i blant, pobl ifanc a theuluoedd, drwy arfer lleol, polisi neu brosiectau? Os felly, byddem wrth ein bodd yn clywed amdano. 

Rydym yn chwilio am enghreifftiau o bob rhan o Gymru y gallwn eu rhannu gyda chynulleidfa eang drwy ein cyfres o weminarau sy'n gysylltiedig â thlodi. Croesewir pob enghraifft waeth beth fo'u maint neu leoliad, o ymwybyddiaeth staff mewnol a newid agweddau, i brosiectau cymunedol neu sirol. Mae gan bawb rôl bwysig i'w chwarae ac mae ein cynulleidfaoedd yn awyddus i ddysgu oddi wrthych.
